Plymouth first introduced the Barracuda in 1964 based on the A-Body platform used for the Valiant and entered the compact, sports car field alongside the Ford Mustang. This new model would have a huge wrap around rear window to produce the Fastback design they were after, and was offered with both 6 cylinder and V8 engine options. By 1965, Plymouth elected to increase power optioned to include the 273ci Commando V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor, 10.25:1 compression, solid lifters, and more aggressive camshaft to produce 235 horsepower and 280 ft. lbs. The Torquefite automatic let loose of the pushbutton selector of the past in exchange for console mounted units. In addition to these upgrades, factory installed air conditioning and disc brakes became optional for late production 1965 units in preparation for the 1966 model, its final offering of these beautiful first generation Barracudas.
We are very excited to offer this sharp 1966 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback finished in classic White with Gold over-the-top formula style stripes with Light Metallic Gold vinyl interior! According to the VIN, our example was built in Los Angeles, CA and originally fitted with the Commando 273ci V8 engine, and based on the service card still located in the glove box delivered new February 1st, 1966 from dealer code #63074. Today, it has been restored with a fully rebuilt 318ci V8 engine fitted with an Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake and 600cfm carburetor. Additional options and features on this car include column-shifted Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission, power front disc brakes, power steering, Vintage Air Mark IV under dash air conditioning system, heater/defrost, 3-spoke steering wheel, padded instrument panel, dual outside mirrors with driver outside remote, tinted rear window glass, day/night rearview mirror, windshield washer, Custom Autosound AM/FM/AUX/Bluetooth radio, and front & rear seatbelts!
The engine was fully rebuilt to factory spec included new pistons and rings, all new bearings, polished crank, updated Edelbrock carb and performance intake, rebuilt heads with fresh valves & modern guides. The body remains in excellent, rust-free condition and was stripped of all exterior chrome, stainless trim, window glass and professionally painted with the engine and drivetrain removed. It would then receive new window seals as well as all body weather stripping. The interior dash, door panels, rear sail panels are new to match new seat upholstery & padding by Legendary Interiors along with new headliner and floor carpeting. New suspension, dual exhaust system, new brake components, wheel bearings, BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 215/60R15 wrapped around chrome Cragar S/S mags were installed along with the modern a/c system by Vintage Air.
As it sits, it really could not be any nicer or a better road car for someone looking for a Barracuda that has already been sorted for everyday use! It was completed in late 2016 and driven sparingly in south Florida before coming to the St. Louis area in 2019. It has always been garage kept, serviced annually as needed, and respectfully driven only on the nicest of days! Please feel welcome to call with questions or schedule a chance to review in person! This one will not last!
